Wishing to be a teacher requires more than getting good grades in college. There are certain tests you must pass in order to be licensed and certified. The Praxis 2 test dates are set up for students to take just prior to their student teaching academic year. Passing this test on the first try is ideal, but not everyone will be able to manage that, so the test is offered again throughout the students teaching semester. Colleges offer these tests or a student may opt to take advantage of internet testing. When one chooses to use the internet, applying through the state in which you wish to become a teacher, is advisable. The District of Columbia, Guam, the US Virgin Islands, as well as 45 of 50 states, require the passing of this exam and all of them have some variables in their requirements. Attending college in one state, and the state you want to teach in, may have different license requirements. There is a small fee for taking the test. Failing this exam, does not stop you from taking it again any number of times, but the fee will have to be paid again each time. All states offer a number of different times in which you may take the test. Testing by internet may vary from college testing, so it is best to check this out beforehand. Unfamiliarity with this test could pertain to the fact that not all areas use this name for its testing requirements. States are free to call it what they choose. Still, going under a different title does not defer one from having to take the test. Licensing is mandatory if you wish to teach in the vast majority of places. Versions of the exam to be taken exceed 125. Mathematics, languages, chemistry, early childhood education, and physics are a minute few of the subjects one may choose to major in. Once you have registered for the test, you may also want to see what that state’s passing requirements are, as they also can vary. Testing dates, any cost involved, and passing requirements can all be located on the internet. This valuable information source can give you exemplary insight into these tests, and even be of assistance in passing the test. Some that can be particularly difficult are the language studies, as these require oral as well as written examination. There is some degree of difficulty involved in taking these required exams, but proper preparation should eliminate most of your concerns. Praxis, or your state, will have a developed program informing you of registration dates, expectations of test day, and how to figure out your score based on their scoring criteria. Practice tests can be done on line and study tools can be found at many different sites. The Praxis system, in and of itself, is not used by everyone. Even if a state uses this method, they are free to add any required material they wish. Do not be concerned with any questions you answer incorrectly, as your test score is based on correct answers only. Studying the questions and not rushing through them is the preferred way to passing this test. Passing the test should be well within your capabilities, if you have worked throughout college to maintain good study habits. To help you further prepare for your Praxis II Test, please check out our guide to Praxis 2 Test Dates Scott Mansfield, Test Editor for Test-Guide.com Free Exam Review Guides – Test-Guide.com provides free test prep for Praxis 2, SAT, GRE, GED, CNA, GMAT, TOEFL exams and more.

Hola! Is there anything else that you would like to try in order to learn the Spanish language? There are, in fact, so many ways which have already been tried by many language practitioners. Not all of these things though work for everyone and since each person prefers one method over another, it just proves that compatibilities have to form between the material and the learner.

Most people who have studied the Spanish language would usually be too conscious of learning, understanding and then translating a Spanish sentence or phrase to English word by word. This is one of the most common errors a learner commits because the subtle side to it shows that if each word is translated to English, there will be less misunderstanding. It’s really ironic because the often this is practiced, the worse it gets. Word of advice, refrain from this type of learning approach.

What you need to concentrate more on is how a cluster of words appeal to you. By reading Spanish texts or materials and taking note of the words that doesn’t make sense to you, improving your vocabulary and general understanding of it becomes easy. It may take you days, weeks and even months to accomplish it but it’s worth all the effort. The words or phrases you have taken note of will also help immensely since a quick read of it will trigger cues in to your memory and the correct use or meaning of it will always stick to your mind. The reason? It gives your mind a reason not to make the same mistakes again. Thus, making you learn as you go.

Take advantage of the Spanish advertisement you can easily watch or hear over the radio, cable TV, Internet radio and the Internet in general. Though the words may seem strange at first, the approach of commercials is to mainly dig in deep to your mind the captivating words of the different products that are being endorsed. The same thing happens to you, never mind the product of the ad, but cling on to the Spanish words and the more you hear and try to understand what it simply means, the easier you will be able to use it on your own.

Spanish is a beautiful language to both speak and listen to and is considered by many to be one of the easier languages to learn. If you are considering learning this wonderful language then these four methods, which are the most commonly used methods for doing so, are worth considering.

Immersion Courses

Probably the method that offers the quickest results, immersion courses are becoming increasingly popular with many people who want to learn Spanish. They are successful because they completely immerse the student into Spanish, language and culture, on a daily basis, often not permitting the use of English at all!

Unfortunately, immersion courses come at a price…time away and cost. It is generally the case that theses types of courses are located in Spanish speaking countries (although not always the case) and will take a few weeks to complete they are also very expensive as you not only pay for the course but for food and accommodation in many cases.

Benefits:

* Learn Spanish Quickly
* Learn about Spanish culture and interact with the local Spanish community.

Negatives:

* Requires time away from home
* Very Expensive for most people

Traditional Classroom Courses

The second method that many people use to learn to speak Spanish has been used for a long time and was a favorite of many and that is the traditional classroom course, taken at a local University or Community College. Pretty much all colleges provide Spanish classes so you shouldn’t need to travel too far.

Whilst learning in a classroom environment may provide great interaction and are a great way to learn Spanish for some people, there are definitely a few drawbacks with using this method. The main issue with this traditional method of study is that the courses are very rigid, well at least the timetables are! There is no flexibility at all, if a class is scheduled for a Friday night at 7pm and you can’t make it till 8pm…tough you miss the lesson, not to mention the money you will have already paid for the course. Oh..and a classroom class is not particularly cheap either and is often beyond that which many can afford to pay.

Also…if you want, or need, to learn Spanish quickly a classroom course is probably the slowest method of learning because most courses will run alongside school semesters, providing one, maybe two, lessons a week, it will probably take you a while before you start to see any worthwhile results.

Benefits:

* Generally local to where you live
* Good social interactivity

Negatives:

* Takes a long time to see results
* Expensive for most people
* No flexibility

Self Tuition Books

There are a massive number of self study books available to help teach the Spanish language student learn to speak Spanish. These books are a flexible, affordable way to learn Spanish. With a self study book you are able to take it with you and study wherever you want, but there are some problems with this method of learning Spanish also.

As the self teach book is only a book it is impossible for the student to understand and learn how words in Spanish are pronounced and also there is a motivational issue; languages are generally more interesting when you can hear them being spoken rather than just reading the language.

Benefits:

* Very Affordable
* Flexible Method of Learning Spanish

Negatives:

* No Interaction
* No Motivation to Complete course due to…
* No Audio Reference for Learning Pronunciation and Gaining Conversational Skills

Online Spanish Courses

That brings us to our final method of learning Spanish the learn Spanish software program or, online course. This method of learning Spanish has increased in popularity immensely recently, simply because it ticks so many of the boxes.

Flexibility is, for many people, the number one priority when choosing how to learn Spanish and learning with the use of an online course allows individuals to study when they want no matter what time of day or night. The only downside of this versatility is that it isn’t always possible to have your home computer and internet connection with you.

When compared to a self study book, online courses are normally a little more expensive but they do provide the interaction and audio that books do not, which does counter the extra cost. There are varying degrees of cost and quality available but some of the most popular courses are very affordable and offer exceptional quality comparable to courses that cost a great deal more.

Due to the flexibility of these courses and the fact that more focus is placed upon learning conversational Spanish they make it possible to learn Spanish very quickly if you choose or at a slower pace if you are in no rush. In other words, you control how quickly you learn.

Support is another key element offered by many of these courses and is possible because of the freedom an online interface provides; if you have a specific problem you are able to speak to other users on course forums or similar portals and very quickly receive answers or a resolution.

Benefits:

* Affordable for the vast majority of people
* Extremely Flexible
* Learn Spanish Quickly or Slowly, you set the pace.
* Interactive learning, often including online games and quizes
* Support network
* Quality learning material
* Much more enjoyable than traditional methods of self study

Negatives:

* Not as portable or (generally) as cheap as a self study book

There was an article this morning in our paper about the new math curriculum being used in our area. I cannot believe they are choosing a single math curriculum that is supposed to fit an entire region. How many teachers are involved? How many different students? All those different individuals, and there will be only ONE BOOK???

I started getting concerned when they mentioned the book “Discovering” for algebra and geometry, and said “It’s also the series our school district has chosen.” First of all, any time our school district chooses anything, run the other way. They have a 46% graduation rate. That is our local high school:-)

“Some of the highest-paying and most competitive careers are in science, technology and medicine – all math-intensive fields. Meanwhile, more colleges and universities are requiring applicants to take up to four years of math in high school.”

That is a very good reason to teach math, and a very good reason to be conscientious about it. I would also like to point out that it is not all about pay either. Nursing, for example, is a math-based careers that is more about mission than money.

But do you have to choose between math “investigations” vs. extensive explanations and practice? I love the fact that homeschoolers can have it both ways. You can take a traditional textbook and add supplements that encourage understanding. But you know, some kids need more practice, and some kids need more explanations. Some kids just flat out need more hands on activities! I am not sure how one math book can serve the needs of every student.

I know that homeschoolers feel very concerned about upper level math. How much harder would it be if you were a non-homeschooling parent? Imagine trying to help your child with homework when you did not choose the book, have not seen it all year, do not have a video or an 800 number to call. What a nightmare! My friend had a child who used the Discovery book in public school. The schools were not able to help her and so they hired a tutor. Even the tutor who had a math degree could not figure out the Discovery book!

It was interesting to see them comparing these math books to the whole language vs. phonics debate. I remember thinking that different children learn to read in different ways, and that a mixture of the two can help. Math may be the same way.

Learning how to say ‘hello’ in Spanish is the first step of many you will take when learning Spanish the path will definitely become harder but these early basic greetings are the food and water of any language and their importance can never be understated.

Do not worry about the formation and the grammar of these early phrases just relax and concentrate on the sound that each of the following phrases makes as you say them, greetings are the first impression you will make when speaking to a Spanish speaker so practice saying them regularly.

When you want to say ‘Hello!’ in Spanish you use the word “¡Hola!”

In Spanish the ‘h’ is silent so you would pronounce ‘Hola’ as ‘olla’. This greeting is widely used as in English so you will gain lots of experience using it.

There are of course more formal greetings:

Good Morning which is “Buenas días”.
This is pronounced as ‘bwenas deeas’ The ‘ue’ is pronounced as a ‘w’ and the accented ‘i’ in “días” as an emphasized ‘ee’.
Good Afternoon which is “Buenas tardes”.
“Tardes” is pronounced ‘tarrdais’ with a very slight roll on the ‘r’.
Good Evening or Good Night is “Buenas Noches”.
“Noches” is pronounced ‘notchais’

If you would like to ask someone how they are you would say:

“¿Cómo estás?” – How are you?

You could also use “está” if you were asking someone you did not know as a sign of respect, however, apart from asking high ranking dignatories this form is rarely used nowadays. Another more informal way of asking someone this is to say:

“¿Qué tal?” – How’s it going? or How are you?

When you want to say goodbye to somebody you would say:

“¡Adiós!” – Good bye

Now, not to confuse you too much, it is important, should you ever hear it being used in this manner, but “adiós” is also used frequently to say ‘hello’ in Spanish, but only when passing someone very briefly.

Just starting to learn Spanish? The best, and most popular, way of doing so is to use a learn Spanish software course and you will find these Learn Spanish Software Reviews both concise and very informative.

If you think that learning to speak Spanish is beyond you, then it might be worth removing that obstacle before you do anything else!

For us adults, learning to speak Spanish – or any other language – involves scraping the rust of some of the cogs that we like to call our ‘brain’ and believing that the task is doable.

If we hold beliefs that we can’t do things, then that is a learned pattern of thought. The good news is that we can physically alter the pathways in our brains so we don’t shut out the new learning that speaking Spanish is going to involve.

After all, if we found ourselves in a Spanish-speaking country with virtually no English speakers around, we would learn Spanish – so the mechanism for learning it is in our head. Let’s get that block well and truly out of the way!

In fact a period of three months or more living in Spain or Latin America is the best way of learning Spanish. But for many of us – including those of us who have a local Spanish-speaking community we’d like to embrace, or a career reason for learning the language quickly – we have to use other methods.

So which methods will deliver the quickest results? Well, top of the list would be an audio course that can have you learning to speak Spanish in the car, by your laptop, in your home AND out of your mp3 player. Your life has many facets, and your language-learning course needs to accommodate them.

Once you’ve formed the habit of switching on your Spanish exercises instead of music or negative news stories, then you’re well on your way. This habit will propel you towards learning Spanish quicker than you ever believed possible.

They do say that successful people and unsuccessful people share the same attitude to habits; they are both very reluctant to change them. (We’re not talking about the same habits obviously!)

The big enemy of learning to speak Spanish is going to be boredom and losing motivation. If you are taking classes with a mixed ability, you are likely to become bored or left behind unless you top up with an online audio course. It’s what you do BETWEEN lessons that counts – same as with learning a musical instrument.

If your Spanish course is just grammar and vocabulary – although both are crucial – then you may just want to play music in your car or on your iPod instead. Two weeks later you’ve forgotten you were ever trying to learn Spanish in the first place.

The best sort of online course involves lots of interactive exercises and even word games that increase your learning far better than a dry, colourless course that will turn you off. Learning to speak Spanish should be an enjoyable journey as well as a wonderful destination, so make sure you pick the best ‘transport’!

Alun Maxwell is a trainer and corporate roleplayer who helps international company executives get a better understanding of how their words and behaviours impact on others, whether it be in English or their mother tongue. He has worked in Spain, Italy and Germany to this end as well as all countries within the British Isles. Here is a great resource for anyone who is pressed for time but is very serious about learning to speak spanish.

So in other words, you must combine the theory and criticism of the media and education through the media.

Students will be asked to watch popular shows like CSI, but not as simply enjoying as usual, for a variety of tasks from Professor Gencarelli to be done while watching CSI, makes the students really have to observe many small details from an existing movie.
